Professors Mitu Gulati and Ralph Michaels received Blueprint Awards for their scholarly collaborations and contributions April 18 during the inaugural D.O.N.E. Awards, an event recognizing “Duke Outstanding and Noteworthy Endeavors” (D.O.N.E.) organized by the Duke Bar Association (DBA). “We wanted to appreciate one another as a community," DBA member Michael Pusateri ’08 told more than 200 attendees. "It’s cool to look out and see a community of people who are so passionate about what they do, considerate, and caring of one another. That’s what first brought me to Duke and what continues to inspire me every day.”
Dean Katharine T. Bartlett presented Professors Gulati and Michaels with the Blueprint Awards honoring the commitment of faculty and staff to the values set out in the Duke Blueprint to LEAD during the ceremony. Described as a “whirlwind of intellectual activity,” Professor Gulati earned the “Collaboration Award” for his prolific, interdisciplinary collaborations. “No one on the faculty has written more co-authored works, Bartlett said. Professor Michaels received the “Faculty Scholarship Award,” which honors the faculty member who a faculty committee finds has written the year’s best scholarly piece. Michaels’ widely praised article, “Two Paradigms of Jurisdiction,” was published as the lead article in 2006 in the Michigan Journal of International Law.
Professor Erwin Chemerinsky; Doris Henson, the Library’s long-time cataloguing librarian; Administrative Services team member Renee Valade; and Director of Educational Technologies Wayne Miller also received Blueprint Awards for their continued commitment to intellectual engagement, service, leadership growth, and professionalism within the law school.
In addition to celebrating the contributions of Duke Law faculty and staff to the Blueprint values, the DONE Awards also recognized Professor Catherine Fisk , who received the DBA's "Distinguished Teaching Award," and honored several student organizations for their work and achievements throughout the academic year.
