The library's main floor offers a spectacular Reading Room, as well as a unified service desk for streamlined assistance from the library and Academic Technologies staff.

Level 3 houses the major primary sources necessary for researching United States law: all state and federal codes, federal case reporters and digests, and a collection of Practice & Procedure materials which includes federal practice treatises, form books and the American Law Reports. Federal legal materials are conveniently located in the William F. Stevens Federal Area. The Clarence W. Walker North Carolina Alcove contains the North Carolina General Statutes, Strong’s North Carolina Index, and other state-specific research materials.

Level 3 also contains the Henry J. Oechler, Jr. Reference Area, the George C. Christie Jurisprudence Collection, the Empirical Research Collection, and the Professor Arthur Larson Reserve Collections (located behind the service desk). The James D. Cox Legal Fiction and Leisure Reading collections are also shelved on Level 3, near the window wall. The Floyd M. and Marguerite F. Riddick Rare Books and Special Collections Room houses the library’s superior collection of historic English and American legal treatises, as well as the Riddick Collection on parliamentary procedure and autographed senatorial materials.

Level 3 provides twelve computer workstations for public use, with a networked printer. The Document Production Room provides additional law student printers, as well as three networked scanners, a photocopier, and domestic outbound fax service.
