Duke Law Drama Society Presents Waiting for Godot

On Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Mar. 1, the Duke Law Drama Society will present its second offering of the year - Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot . Performances will be at 8 p.m. in the PSI Theater at the Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris Street (the downtown loop). Admission is free and the performance is open to the public.

This two-act drama has shocked, delighted and infuriated audiences since its opening night in a small Paris theater in 1954, and it continues to influence the way plays have been written, performed and conceived. The play focuses on two people who await the arrival of a third, and how they pass the time. As they wait, the characters battle monotony by inventing distractions for themselves, contemplating religion, questioning each other's commitment to their task, and getting a little exercise. Other characters interrupt their wait briefly but ultimately leave the protagonists to continue waiting.

The cast features Jerome Deluca '04 (Vladimir), Nicole Rittenhouse '03 (Estragon), Kristina Evans '04 (Pozzo), 3L Amanda Uliano '03 and Elizabeth Wade '04 (Messenger). Phil Bezanson '04 directs, with lighting design by Blake Klein '04.

Earlier in the year, the Drama Society presented a program of two short plays, including DMV Tyrant by Christopher Durang and We Purchase Uncollected Judgments by 1L J.P. Davis, winner of the Drama Society's Fall 2002 Playwriting Contest. Students from each class, including LLMs, acted in the plays, directed by 3L Amanda Uliano.
