Supreme Court term

Main Content

What are the significant cases the Supreme Court will hear in the coming year? What potential impact will new Chief Justice Roberts and Associate Justice Alito have on the direction of the Court? These topics, plus a review of last year's key decisions will be discussed by a panel of Duke Law experts Monday, August 28.

"The last term was largely about transitions. This term we may witness the magnitude of what those transitions have wrought," says Assistant Professor of Law and Political Science Neil Siegel, who will be joined on the panel by Alston & Bird Professor of Law and Political Science Erwin Chemerinsky, and Charles S. Murphy Professor of Law and Public Policy Studies Christopher Schroeder. During its term the Court will hear arguments relating to controversial issues such as the federal ban on "partial birth" abortion and race-conscious student assignments for public elementary and secondary schools, among many others.

Sponsored by the Program in Public Law, the event begins at 12:15 p.m. in room 3041 at the Law School and is open to the public. A light lunch will be served on a first-come, first-served basis
