Legal adviser to secretary of state examines transatlantic approaches to international law and institutions

John B. Bellinger III, legal adviser to the secretary of state, will deliver the Center for International and Comparative Law’s inaugural lecture on November 15. His lecture, on the differing approaches of the United States and Europe toward international law and legal institutions in an age of globalization and terrorism, will begin at 12:15 in room 3041 at Duke Law School.
The event is free and open to the public. The Law School is located at the corner of Science Drive and Towerview Road on Duke’s West Campus. Parking is available at the Bryan Center.
Mr. Bellinger is the principal adviser on all domestic and international law matters to the U.S. Department of State, the Foreign Service, and the diplomatic and consular posts abroad. He is also the principal adviser on legal matters relating to the conduct of foreign relations to other agencies and, through the secretary of state, to the president and the National Security Council. From 2001 to 2005 Mr. Bellinger served as senior associate counsel to the president and legal adviser to the National Security Council at the White House.
