Amy Pickle
Senior Lecturing Fellow

Amy Pickle directs the State Policy Program at Duke University's Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. She focuses on state and local roles in developing energy resources; the interaction among federal, state, and local water management policies; the role of water utilities in green infrastructure implementation; and local governments' efforts to adapt to climate change and improve urban sustainability.

Pickle joined the Nicholas Institute in 2008 after serving for five years as a senior attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center where her practice focused on water and coastal issues. From 2001 to 2003 she served as assistant attorney general in the N.C. Department of Justice.

Pickle served as a member of the N.C. Environmental Management Commission from 2012 to 2013, and from 2012 to 2015 served as a member of the N.C. Mining and Energy Commission. She is a past chair of the Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Section of the N.C. Bar Association.

Pickle holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and bachelor’s degrees in English and chemistry from the University of Florida. She is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of North Carolina and in the U.S. Supreme Court.
